Inkurunziza Church: A Journey of Faith and Community Transformation
11:31 AM - November 22, 2024
In the early 1960s, Rwanda, like many other developing nations in Africa, welcomed missionaries bringing the gospel’s message and a vision for holistic development. Among these missionaries were Jack and Marion Lacey from the Christian Missions in Many Lands (CMML) in the USA. Together with Nyamukama Michel, a dedicated Rwandan believer, they founded Foyer la Bonne Nouvelle—“Good News Home”—in 1961. This humble beginning marked the birth of a transformative spiritual movement that would later become widely known as The Brethren Assembly of Rwanda and operate as Inkuru Nziza Church Ministries. Officially established by law (N°465/08 du Sept. 1962 J.O du 1 Oct.), Inkurunziza Church quickly grew and multiplied, spreading its influence across Rwanda. Evangelism played a pivotal role in this expansion, with gospel radio broadcasts, the distribution of gospel tracts, and personal outreach efforts bringing countless new believers to Christ. Beyond its evangelistic mission, the church committed itself to holistic transformation, impacting Rwandan communities in profound and tangible ways.

In addition to its contributions to education, housing, and community empowerment, Inkurunziza Church fosters unity and collaboration through the biannual Rwanda Brethren Conference. This gathering serves as a platform for networking, exchanging ideas, praying together, and encouraging one another as brethren in Christ. From November 17-21, 2024, the church hosted the Rwanda Brethren Conference II (RBC II) for the second time in Rwanda. This year’s conference brought together 180 participants, including 30 women and youth leaders, from four strategic regions where Inkuru Nziza Church operates. Under the theme “Serve as One”, the conference aimed to empower, encourage, and guide leaders in fulfilling God’s mission more effectively for this generation and beyond. It provided a fresh vision for advancing the Kingdom of God, fostering unity among leaders, and sharing practical experiences and challenges.

This year’s conference coincided with the celebration of 62 years of Inkurunziza Church’s existence and its impact on Rwanda. Beneficiaries and stakeholders reflected on the church’s legacy, celebrating its transformative influence on communities and the successful conference of 2022. Their testimonies highlighted the church’s unwavering commitment to advancing the gospel and empowering communities through faith, education, and holistic development.
By bringing leaders together to refocus on their mission and celebrate their shared journey, Inkurunziza Church continues to build a legacy of unity, service, and transformation. This documentary explores the rich history, enduring values, and ongoing impact of a church whose influence resonates deeply in the hearts and lives of countless Rwandans.
